What Remains When the Image Is No Longer a Likeness.

The same question, other means

Part of my work is no longer made with the camera. And yet it is about nothing else. Here too I am not looking for a place but for a state. The familiar that becomes strange, and the strange that seems familiar.

What remains is not the likeness, but a feeling.

Disruption

The starting point was the classical portraiture of the Renaissance, those calm faces with closed eyes, removed from the world and still. From these portraits I formed something new. Not a likeness, not a memory, but a space in between. A glimpse of something that never existed and yet seems strangely familiar.

The AI is my tool in this, like a brush. I layer, intervene, discard, until the image is there that I had in my head. What drives me is a question, not a technique. What is truth in a time when images no longer prove but tell.

In the Shape of Feeling

Here too I did not want a portrait. I wanted a body, a skin, a form that makes tangible what arises between people when closeness, power and desire can no longer be separated. Out of this dynamic came a single, merged figure, strange and yet human.

It is not the face that counts, but the feeling. It is the same question that already lives in Hidden Places and Heimat, only posed with other means.
