Hidden Faces

Series · Mask, reflection

The coasts of Normandy, shaped by the tireless force of the tides, became the starting point of a photographic exploration. Shells, formed by chance and yet seemingly designed with intent, drew me in at once. Their bizarre structures, marked by time and the elements, seemed to carry stories within them, as if they wanted to preserve the traces of their own becoming.

With the camera I documented these shells, explored their details, recorded their textures. But photography was only the beginning. The work truly began when I placed these forms into a new context: through digital mirrorings and layerings. Each shell kept its basic form, the foundation of these images. Yet through the technique of digital collage their dimensions shifted. They became masklike beings that took on an identity of their own, strange and yet familiar, like an echo of nature reaching into another reality.

Change is the core of these works. It shows itself not only in the transformation of the shells themselves, but also in the perception of the viewer. How does the familiar change when it enters into a dialogue with itself? How does our understanding shift when something natural suddenly takes on a seemingly artificial dimension? These photographs are not static depictions: they are a dynamic process. They move between documentation and creation, between reality and fiction, and mirror the constant transformation that defines life and nature. Change is not only the subject but the method: a play of forms and meanings that creates something new without denying its origins.

For me, the fascination lies in the freedom to create new spaces through photography and digital work. It is a process of reinterpretation, an act of shaping in which the original form reaches an entirely different level. Each work tells a story of change and transformation, not only of the shells, but of perception itself.

These images are not pure photographs. They are visual explorations that cross the boundaries of the medium. They question not only the reality of nature, but also how we as viewers interact with that reality. It is this moment of discovery and rethinking that gives my works their voice.
