Cold Stone

Series · Nature, texture, stillness

I remember that moment at the edge of the Norwegian coast when everything suddenly fell silent. The wind, the light, even my thoughts. Only the stone remained. Immovable, ancient, strangely familiar. And yet there was a stirring, as if something beneath the surface had quietly begun to speak.

Layers of granite, seemingly hard and unmoved, revealed something new with every step. Soft curves, as if the water had drawn them. Sharp edges, as if they had been carefully cut. Lines leaning toward one another like old acquaintances. It was not a likeness I was after, but a sensation.

This series approaches the stone as one would approach a body. Not analytically, but attentively. I wanted to feel what rests within it. Its time, its history, its form. And out of this a new language emerged. Not loud, but quiet. Not spectacular, but deep.

The images let go of the documentary gaze. They create spaces in which material becomes memory. Where something cold turns into something human.

A slow seeing. A quiet questioning. A pause between movement and eternity.
